The Golf Collector's Society and the Society of Hickory Golfers are pleased to announce the 5th Annual Michiana Hickory Open Golf Tournament on Saturday, August 27 at the Warren Golf Course on the campus of the University of Notre Dame beginning at 1:00 p.m. The cost is $70.00 per golfer with a cart and $50.00 for walkers. The fee includes prizes for Open Division, Senior Division, and Scramble Division. There will also be prizes for Closest to the Pin and Long Putt. Lunch is on your own; a brief awards ceremony will follow play.
According to GCS Region 6 Director, Jim Jeselnick, the tournamnet is open to any interested golfer who wants to experience what it was like to hit hickory shafted clubs in the era o f Bobby Jones, Walter Hagen, and Gene Sarazen. Rental sets will be available at $15.00 per player on a shared cart basis.
The Warren Golf Course is one of 21 Ben Crenshaw/Bill Coore designed golf courses in the U.S., but only one of four public golf courses. The links-style course is perfect for hickory golf and will measure 5,800 - 5,900 yards.
There will also be a Golfing Trade Show beginning at 9:00 a.m. on Saturday. There are a limited number of tables available at a cost of $10 each. Members of the Golf Collector's Society will have a bariety of golf memorabilia and hickory clubs for sale; and this is open to the public. Golfers are encouraged to bring in their vintage or antique golf items for a free apparaisal.
